Trappist Monastery in Lamanabi, East Flores, Indonesia
The Lamanabi Trappist Monastery, officially known as Pertapaan Lamanabi, is a Catholic monastic community of the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance (OCSO), commonly referred to as Trappists. Located in Lamanabi Village, Tanjung Bunga, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia, the monastery was established in 1996 as a daughter house of Rawaseneng Monastery in Central Java.
Situated approximately 500 meters above sea level, the monastery offers a serene environment conducive to contemplation and prayer. The monks lead a life of self-sufficiency, engaging in various manual labor activities such as candle making, agriculture, baking, and the sale of devotional items. These endeavors not only support the monastery but also provide services to the local community.
In addition to their monastic duties, the community welcomes individuals seeking spiritual retreats, offering guest accommodations and a prayer garden for visitors. The monastery has become a destination for pilgrims and tourists alike, drawn by its tranquil setting and the opportunity for reflection.
The Lamanabi Trappist Monastery continues to uphold the Cistercian tradition of "Ora et Labora" (Pray and Work), contributing to the spiritual and social fabric of the region.
